Garden Bloggers Bloom Day - June 2012

Took these photos just before a thunderstorm.
Got some very soggy flowers now.

Abutilon Hardy Red, I had four different colours originally, the other three obviously weren't that hardy.

Lobelia erinus Superstar, still stuck in the greenhouse, really should be outside by now.

Clematis Ice Blue, bought five years ago, putting on its best display yet.

Digitalis purpurea, a self-seeded foxglove. Nature always plants them in the right place.

Corydalis lutea, another self-seeded plant. This one does get a bit giddy though, really have to keep it under control.

Dactylorhiza pupurella, growing in a pot in the greenhouse. Look at those aphids, wildlife at no extra cost.

Hebe, variety unknown, has now outgrown its allotted space. Will be taking cuttings to replace it next year.

Verbena Trailing Red Velvet, another one in the greenhouse awaiting its escape.

Geranium versicolor, just coming into bloom.

Allium siculum, complete with bee. Don't get me going about the name change, it's an allium, right ?

Osteospermum Voltage Yellow, another one still stuck in the greenhouse.

Thanks to Carol at May Dreams Gardens for hosting. If you want to see what's in bloom around the world today, why not pop over to Carol's blog.

  1. Oh my, that clematis is a beauty though the abutilon is a favorite too. Lovely blooms.

Foxglove just happens to be my favorite plant name, they are only annuals here though.

    Happy GBBD!

    1. Foxgloves grow as biennials over here, but I've just bought a new variety that is supposed to be perennial.

Pozdrawiam.
We also had ugly weather, but the sun shining beautifully today. You have a color in the garden. I really like flowers from the first picture. For me too aphids begin to work. Yours.

  3. Happy GBBD Crystal, sorry it’s been a while since I’ve visited. When I have been able to get into the garden I’ve been trying to get things in order again and by late evening I’m watching the hedgehog cams – lol really need more sleep ;-)

That colour of your Abutilon has caught my eye as did the aphids on your orchid. Is your plant not hardy enough to be outdoors during the summer? That might help it? I’ve a Dactylorhiza outdoors in my garden (will need to find label to tell you which one) and it has got through winter and me moving it around too (so far) I love it and hope it lasts for a few years so I get more blooms.

I also love your Allium siculum. I had it once and I guess I disturbed its planting depth and never saw it again. Thanks for the reminder of this wonderful bloom – its back on my list again :-D

Hope the weather is kind to you over the weekend. It’s breezy and a little wet here – the birds are looking for food. I must get out and fill up feeders :-)

    1. Hi Shirley, nice to hear from you. I've still not seen any hedgehogs yet this year. The orchid is in the greenhouse because it requires a damp, shady position outdoors. I can provide the shade, but it is normally quite dry, except for this year of course. The Allium has been bent over today, thought it was a cat or a squirrel, but then disturbed a wood pigeon. Oh well, it is their garden too.

  4. Nice blooms, Crystal!
I love that Clematis Ice Blue the most since I can't them here.
I read the latest 3 posts and your garden blooms are fantastic this year.
    Happy GBBD!

  5. A lovely selection of your garden flowers Crystal. My favourite is that beautiful Ice Blue Clematis.

We have very high winds today which won't do the flowers any good....or any tree nesting birds :-( This is most bizarre weather!

    1. We had strong winds a couple of days ago, broke a branch off my tree peony. The remaining flowers are all looking very sorry for themselves.

  8. I would have to say foxglove is a favorite of mine. I grow the Penstemon digitalis, which is a native nere.

    1. I'm growing quite a few Penstemon in pots this year. Tried growing some in the borders, but we had a couple of really bad winters and I lost them all.

  9. I grow that same allium here but did not know there was a name change. It's a lovely little bulb and the bee must sure think so too!

    1. Hi Tina, thanks for visiting. The allium is now called Nectaroscordum by the botanists. You can see why I still call it Allium.

  12. Hi Cheryl and Kelli.
Glad you like the Clematis. I've got more clematis just coming into bloom, photos shortly. One of them is looking really odd, hope it's just the early blooms, otherwise it will be a real disappointment.

  13. Everything looks wonderful! I love your verbena. I had to quit buying it since it always brought spider mites into the garden.

    1. Never had spider mites on mine, but mine are susceptible to mildew.

  14. Hi Chrystal, lovely photos :-) And what a gorgeous Clematis 'Ice Blue', I see that I am not the only one that likes it! I have two clematis myself, both in shades of purple, if I could only find the space for another one I would have loved to have 'Ice Blue'!
