Arcade Games

Well not quite.
Just wanted to get your attention there.

This is Gerbera Arcadia, a member of the Landscape series introduced a few years ago. It has a beautiful double white flower. Hang on a minute. That's not white. It's growing on a sunny windowsill at the moment. Think it may have been the sunlight shining through it's petals that make it look, well sort of yellow. We've got no sunshine at the moment, and it is definitely looking whiter now. Hopefully, when it goes outside for the summer, it will behave itself.

Today is the start of Lent, and yes there is a saying that goes with it:

'A dry lent means a fertile year.'

Well it's raining at the moment, so that's a good start isn't it ? But then again, Lent lasts until 7 April, so we've plenty of time yet to get a dry spell.

  1. I didn't realise you could plant Gerbera's out in the garden - I have always kept mine in the greenhouse - you live and learn!

    1. The Landscape Gerberas are quite tender, so I overwinter them indoors. They will be moving into the greenhouse in a few weeks, and then into pots on the patio for summer.

  2. That is a sweet sunny delight... any mention of sun this time of year makes me giddy. Most of my world is in shades of brown and gray right now.

    1. We've been promised mild weather for the next few days, but not much sunshine. Can't have everything I suppose.

    1. Nature always pays her debts, so you should be due for some dry weather. We, on the other hand, haven't had much rain. So we are due for some, just in time for summer. Oh well.

  4. I did think it was yellow until I read the post. Like Elaine I didnt realise they could be grown outdoors in the UK so that's something new I have learned today!

We have had high winds and rain most of the day :-(

    1. I grow the Landscape Gerberas in pots on the patio in summer, but I've also got some other Gerberas that are quite hardy. I'll be featuring them in a future post when they start flowering.

  5. Like your saying about Lent and a dry year. Here today it is dry so I will see if what you say is true! Jack

    1. Our local weather forecast is predicting dry weather for the next few weeks, so I'm hoping the prediction comes true.

  6. When I think of Gerbera, I think of hot pink and orange. I love that cream color. It is going to be rainy/snowy here for the next few days, the temperature hanging around the freezing mark. But we'll wait and see what March brings.

    1. We're having another unseasonal mild spell. It was like spring today, very strange.
