Home, Sweet Home

They've put a deposit on it, literally,
Signed the contracts, and now they're ready to move in.

After weeks of checking out the nestbox, the blue tits decided to start moving the furniture in today. Only small items at first. You know, like the TV and the radio, wonder if they can get Freeview in there.

Seriously though, isn't it amazing how they can predict the weather ?  How do they know that in a few weeks time, the weather will be warm enough to sustain them with a constant supply of aphids ?  But somehow, they do know.

It really makes you wonder about our place in the scheme of things, doesn't it ? After all, we humans can build multi-million pound computers to predict the weather, and still get it wrong. And yet a little bird, like a swallow for instance, can accurately predict when it is time to leave Africa and set off back to the UK, to arrive just as the warmer weather begins. Maybe we are much further down the pecking order than we realise.

By the way, the five cuckoos that were tagged by the BTO have left the Congo and are now on their way back to the UK. All in all, looks like some fine weather is on the way.

  1. My husband says they know by the angle of the sun. Don't know if he's right (or he just made that up), but I do think we humans have forgotten a lot of things that helped us survive in the 'cave days'! Those are some beautiful birds!

    1. Your husband could be right, Holley. Although the birds don't come back at exactly the same time every year, so there must be something else as well.

  2. Dobrze, że mają jakiś ptasi instynkt, bo dzięki temu żyją, a my możemy się cieszyć ich widokiem.Pozdrawiam.***Well, they have some bird instinct, because through this alive, and we can enjoy the view. Yours.

    1. Yes, Giga, their instincts are far sharper than ours.

  3. How very much I agree with you, you have echoed my views exactly! How dare we be so arrogant as to think we are more superior simply because we don't really understand enough about other creatures. I often wonder if we are actually aliens on this planet because we seem to be the only beings out of 'sync' here and intent on ruining it!

I hope the Blue Tits have a productive stay in their new home.

I too heard the Cuckoos have started their return journey, I do hope they all arrive safely.

    1. Aliens ? Yes, that would explain a lot. And we probably destroyed our home planet too, before we came here.

  4. Crystal, your post brought a smile to my face. You wrote so lovely about the tits finding a new home in your garden :-)! I agree, birds are quite fascinating with their precise instincts to predict the weather ahead. So much to wonder about!

  5. So adorable! I have a chickadee pair making a nest in one of my birdhouses in the garden. They are so diligent in making the nest.
