Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day - February 2012

Woops, forgot to tell the plants.
Now the flowers are playing hide and seek.

Helleborus argutifolius, bowing its head in shame after the recent frosts.

Bacopa Double White, this really should not be flowering in February.

Primula Fruelo, struggling to bloom after the frosts.

Helleborus orientalis, only just beginning to bloom. Their flowers are still facing the ground, so I had to photograph them upside down, with the camera that is, not me.

And finally, Galanthus Sam Arnott, the only plants who were more than willing to be photographed today.

Well, that wasn't easy. Didn't realise how much the recent wintry weather had set the plants back. The Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day is a meme hosted by Carol at May Dreams Gardens, where gardeners from around the world, link their posts showing plants flowering in their gardens on the 15th of each month.

  3. Hellebores are wonderful, aren't they? At the moment mine are looking a little dull, but I know that when winter comes, I'll wish I had more,so I enjoyed looking at yours instead. That double white one is lovely.

  4. Lovely pictures, I love primulas, although I gave up growing them some years ago, after several mild winters, the aphids were rife! Perhaps the last few winters would have been better for primulas...something to bring back into my garden next winter maybe? I like the double hellebore too!
    Take care :-)

    1. There are aphids on my primulas too. But fortunately, I have a little wren who visits them every morning for his breakfast.

  5. Hello Crystal, wishing you a belated Happy GBBD :-)

Can’t remember if you’ve given a rough guide to the area of the UK you’re in to compare my garden with yours. Here in (very roughly) the middle of Scotland my garden (plants/birds/wildlife) tends to be 3 weeks behind those in the South of England.

However, spookily for this year, with us having little snow and warmer temps and England having snow and cold temps our gardens are almost the same. On saying that, some of my hellebores have been in flower for over a month. Oh well… you can’t say our gardens are boring :-)

    1. I'm in Sheffield in South Yorkshire, though I think it moves to Northern Scotland in winter.

  6. You have a lot more colour in your garden at the moment than I have. I do like Hellebores, so cheerful at this time of year.

    1. All the flowers are close to the house though. Most of the garden is still asleep.

  7. Amazing how many beauties you have blooming considering the recent snow. I've read that some hellebores will grow here and now I just need to find them.

  8. Hi Crystal, you have quite a bit to show for GBBD even though you said that the frost has set things back in your garden! I love all your hellebores, nodding heads or not! The primroses are such a cheerful sight and the galanthus, too. It is really astounding though, that the bacopa is blooming! Thanks for sharing your blooms!

    1. I know, that bacopa it's weird. It will probably stop flowering in summer.
